Gas Station Transformation

Amsterdam’s push for a zero-emission A10 puts its 30 urban gas stations in a spotlight. What looks like ordinary fuel stops are actually tiny pieces of a much bigger urban puzzle where mobility habits are shifting, space is scarce, the grid is strained, and the city is moving toward an autoluw future.

As we explored each station, we began to see six distinct types and a cast of characters shaping their fate: the municipality setting the ambition, operators trying to adapt, residents navigating everyday mobility, and developers sensing opportunity. Suddenly, gas stations weren’t just places to fuel a car; they were a clue to the city's future.

This website invites you into that story. Wander through the current landscape and peek into the futures these sites could unlock, from mobility hubs to housing to unexpected new hybrids. Then try it yourself: explore the data, play with the tools, and sketch your own transformation of Amsterdam’s fuel network. And if you dream up something brilliant, share it with us.
